Violence in Video Games

Is there too much Violence in video games today? Are there not enough games directed to younger individuals? I know that when I was a kid they were all aimed at me cause well it was basically the birth of gaming or video gaming. But seriously is there anything that the average person can do to make sure that our kids don't become as messed up as we are?

any thoughts on this subject would be great.

We play games to escape the realities of life. There is not better way to spend time and we do such things in games because we obviously can't do them in real life.
