Parrots

Hi. I am the proud owner of a little green monster called a Quaker Parrot. He is indigenous to South America in countries such as Argentina and Bolivia. He is not very large, but packs alot of personality into his little body. He talks up a storm and is a wonderful addition to our family.
His clarity is not as clearly defined as an African Grey, but his vocabulary can equal or outdo the Grey's.
They are relatively cheap when you compare them to other parrots. $200 for the bird and maybe $150 to $200 for set up depending on cage and toys you buy. His beak isn't very large either, so maintaining him in toys doesn't get expensive and there is the very positive aspect that he doesn't hurt as much as a larger bird.
I hope to hear from other bird owners so we can swap advice and stuff.

yes I know. We found out today how well he picks up noises. My SO keeps encouraging him to repeat the noise (I made it of course) and I told him it wouldn't be too cool if he repeats it in front of his nurse. (he is on IV at home for lyme disease). Notice I could care less about the kids. hahahaha.
He picked up Give it away now by rhcp becuase my son sings and listens to the song all the time. You have to hear him roll his v's in the word give. He is a real riot.

He really is. If you go to this website, you can see quaker parrots in the NYC area flying free. BrooklynParrots.com: A Web Site About the Wild Parrots of Brooklyn
On Saturday, in Brooklyn there will be a Quaker Safari, which will give you the chance, if you live in the area to see them in their natural habitat. Well, natural as far being wild goes. I hope to be there at Brooklyn College at 12 PM this Saturday 3/3/07. Hope to see some of you there.

Hey guys!

I have a blue Indian Ringneck. His name is Jake the Peg (I will explain the story shortly). He is a beautiful looking bird. He is a light blue colour with a big red beak and a thick black ring around his neck.
Now an explanation for the name...
He was nameless for a good 3-4 months. He then somehow got out of his cage and sadly my dogs got to him. I thought he had just flown away until I found his feathers beside our garage. I was scared to find out what was around the corner but I had a look anyway. All I could see was his red beak sticking out from the piles of wood behind the garage. I scooped him up (the only time he didn't bite me haha) and noticed his leg was hanging as it was broken. I took him to the vet ASAP and they said I had 3 options. Put him down, chop it off or fix it. I fixed it :-). He then had a pin put in his leg and a splint and a cone over his head to stop him biting it.
My dad suggested I call him Jake the Peg after that. It is some old character I think.
Anyway that is my story. I will post a pic of him when i get a decent one!
