Some spammers basically attack mail servers and use a method called a dictionary attack to get their junk mail sent out. Basically, the spam is sent to every combination of letters and common names at an ISP. In this scenario, spam is more likely to get through to a common, short e-mail address like "mary @insertdomainname.com" than it would "mary_washinger @insertdomainname.com".

Exactly , that is a great point to notice , because these shorter emails always have a person using them and this makes the spammers task much much easier , he for these emails he doesnot have to work . people are generally very happy with shorter emails as they think its good but eventually it is really not as they are inviting a lt of spam with it . go with a different email address that is not quite guess - able and you have done a good task in prevention of spam .
