Nostradamus has mostly been wrong
As the list indicate, Nostradamus´ prophesies really petered out after the French Revolution and French emperors, and the 1999 date could be a pretense that his prophesies really have a larger scope. Nostradamus often resorted to tricks and numerology, and for good measure might have added his version of a end-of-millennium-Armageddon. The year 3797 mentioned was as absurd and far-flung as Bishop Ushers date of creation being 4004 B.C.
As time has passed we now know that more than 90% of Nostradamus´ all too numerous prophesies (maybe 5000 events) will never happen. On the other hand Nostradamus has missed an endless row of events that did happen. His barrage of bland predictions are multiplied by ambiguity and sheer nonsense, and thus there were bound to be "surprising" hits. But often we are not certain whether to credit Nostradamus or his interpreter. Or his translator as most of the texts are distorted to fit the prediction: one cannot really trust anything without seeing the original text together with the translation.
