Horoscopes

You often hear people asking "How can the time of your birth possibly influence your destiny?", or the even more poignant question "How can your future outlook possibly be exactly the same as one twelfth of the population?"

Well, obviously. Duh, you might even say to that.

The point of horoscopes, if they're really well written, is that they give you a randomly chosen perspective on your life, your future, or the choices you might make. If you're stuck on a problem, and all your attempts to find a solution just keep going around in circles, sometimes a bit of random input can really loosen up your thinking, and help you to approach the problem a lot more creatively.

Of course it's not science, but whether it's poetry, art, imagination ... is another thing.

Of coz not,
if people spend years and years to study something,
I'm pretty sure it's not a waste of space, it's just important to others and perhaps not so important to some others

that's all,
but to say it's a waste of space, that's a little too harsh a word i think

Horoscope - a kind of math

You are right, I agree that horoscopes are not a waste of pace.

The horoscopes are defined based on the time of birth and planetary positions. On second thoughts, I wonder how and from where did man get idea that these two factors can be tied!

Originally astrology and astronomy were the same thing. I imagine people came up with the idea of astrology after noticing how the movement of the stars in the sky correlated with the seasons thousands of years ago. They may even have noticed that people who were born in certain seasons tended to have a certain temperment because people lived in smaller groups and for much of their lives knew the same group.

Astrology has no real basis of any truth to it. The science of astrology, as sugarglider said is simply a clever way to write something that would be true to most people. Just like a psychic uses cold reading to ensnare people.

I have tested this extensively, by studying astrology, how it works and have created charts for my friends, and even sold charts to strangers at $1000 each. The more expensive i sell them, the more accurate they claim my charts to be. It's all in the mind of the believer.

I have always on purpose gave the wrong charts to people and yet they claim that all my predictions were 90% true. The more you believe in it, the more likely you'll think the predictions are true.

BTW: for those of you who still believe in astrology, think about this one point alone. The planets have shifted over the 100s of years since the original planets were assigned their simbols such as aries, so if you think you are an aries, you are actually a taurus today. So, if all your life you have identified yourself everyday with the character of an aries and think that the newspapers were accurate most of the time, you were fooling yourself because in actual fact you're a taurus!!! So, everybody needs to shift their sign one ahead (or one before, i can't be 100% sure).

Why would you purposely sell the wrong charts to strangers? :? If you tested and proved to yourself that astrology doesn't work there is no need to hoist that belief on others by making them feel like fools.

Astrology has been tested time and time again in exactly the same way by giving people the wrong charts or a set of charts and asking them to pick out their profile. The thing is Astrology is hard to quantify, its not the same for every person, nor can you count on every person to know themselves well enough to pick out their own chart. Thats why people go to astrologers in the first place, to try and learn something about themselves.

Its a very complex topic. Beleiving on astrogy is like beleving a theory which has no logic behind. As per me, cool tried an experiment on people and tried to make a point regarding astrological charts. Now, knowing that he was selling a false chart, still people was beliving only prooves the point that people still belive blindly on it without giving a dam thought to it.

That's exactly why astrology is said that its made with clever sense and gives only those things which are true to maximum of populations. Now, as per me it is made on results which are made by certain surveys and surveys can't be said true as it only gives a picture not a truth. If a man says that he will not travel today because my horoscope says that if i go on travel accident may happen then probably he is making a mistake as it can't be said 100% true and again there is nothing in life without risks.

Horoscopes are a waste of time (no offense guys I know you all have your own opinion, I'm just giving mine) although you like to here or experiment with whatever the result of your horoscope.

In the story of the birth of Jesus, the "Three Kings" who came to visit were actually most likely astrologers.

My exposure to astrology is those little one-sentence things they run in the newspapers. They always struck me as so terribly vague that they could apply to just about anyone.
