If my long-time partner is a true alcoholic ...

Question:

If I wish to get pregnant and my long-time partner is a true alcoholic, would there be any type of development conditions of the child to be concerned about? (I am very healthy and active.)

Answers:

The fertility issue with a partner that's alcoholic is that there may be adverse effects on his overall health and sperm function. But that is not as big a problem as bringing a baby into a family where alcohol is a factor. There is a risk of abuse to both mother and child. And that alcohol pattern may place the child at risk of addiction as well. Probably none of these issues apply if the alcoholic is in recovery and is healthy
