Does duration of contraceptive use affect fertility?
It does not seem to make a big difference, except as it allows you to become an older person. As women age, fertility is affected. In a woman's mid-30s there is reduction in fertility, and it becomes even more rapidly reduced once you are in your 40s. So there is no additional effect of contraception added to that. In a woman's 20s, duration of contraception makes no difference. And oral contraceptives in particular reduce the chance that a cervical infection with chlamydia or gonorrhea will go into the fallopian tubes and cause infertility. There is that protective effect of oral contraceptives.
