Contrast Ratio is the difference between the whitest white and the darkest black colors the display can show. The greater the contrast, the better the screen and the subtlety of colors it can display.
Basically contrast i think plays a more role in the digital LCDs than the analogs as we still have an analog tv too at home .Think of a contrast ratio as the amount of shades between black and white. Contrast ratio is a measurement of the difference in colors displayed on a screen at the same time. Most accurately, it is measured as the difference between the brightest and darkest colors on the screen.
