Christian Values

What I like most about Christianity is the emphasis on forgiveness and loving they neighbor. We don't see a lot of that lately. Does anyone have an example of witnessing these type of values in their everyday life?

I think forgiveness and loving thy neighbor is a good philosopy or moral to follow... but the problem is that one the one hand Christians throw around this phrase, but on the other, they believe that anyone who does not believe in Christ will go to Hell.

I have not personally met a Christian that does not hate their neightbors who do not believe the same thing they believe.

So, saying is one thing, doing is another. It's all very hypocritical if you ask me.

For example do a Christian:

1. Truly love their gay neighbors or believes they are deviants of society?
2. Truly love their muslim neighbors ?
3. Truly love their neighbors who choose to have abortions, for instance?

Only when you can love your neighbor for who they are, can you claim to love thy neightbor, otherwise it's all just talk and no do, and true hypocrissy...

Hi,

Loving thy neighbour and not passing judgement as the Lord says judgement is mine or to that effect.

You do not have to be a slave to your neighbor's wishes.

I would hope not anyway.

Cool, you aren't seperating christian belief and human behavior. First off, christians do not believe that if you don't believe in Christ that you will automatically go to Hell, I'm sorry but you are misinformed in this instance. And christian doctrine does state that you must love thy neighbor. But christians are people, and personal prejudice is a personal flaw. They are supposed to love, yet many find it a harder road than it sounds. If every christian person followed the rules then yes, they'd love their neighbors. But not everyone follows the rules and not eveyone can. Indeed, they are difficult rules to follow and even the best men can find themselves unable to always comply. But it does not in any way lessen the fact that the teaching is there.

I have always believed that the essence of Christianity is the Christian's personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Sure, there are "rules," but there is also something called divine guidance that will enable the person to follow those "rules." We are all only human, after all.

Sorry for post so long as this is. I had to tell something about christian virtues, so if this doesn't belong here, please just don't read it. Thank you.

"Rules" in Christianity doesn't exist. They are more pathway signs then they are the rules. Jesus never gave "rules". His words always sounded to me something like this if you WANT TO be my folower you need to... but as I understand western christianity those words became a "rules". And to say something more: you have to practice love, as anything else. You will get a divine guidance, but only if you start your jorney towards salvation. There is a story I heard about one of the ways to built in yourself a real christian vertues:
A rich man wanted to became a monk. He came to his teacher, who gave him a task. "Give a (let us say) dollar to every poor pearson and ask him to tell all bad things to you. When you spend all of you money that way come to me." A young man started to do his task. First few months he was so angry that he cursed his teacher, but he continued. After some time he stared to get use to hearing that. And in the end (after a year) he felt so ashamed about what he did in his life, and he felt that every penny he gave to those poor people payed off. He was so thankful to God for his existance and was ready to serve Him and everyone else. He felt so much love toward other people because he sow himself unworthy of God, and even despite that God loved him. So he mustn't hate or not love others. Young man came to his teacher again and told him what he did and how is he feeling now. Teacher sed to him: now you can became a monk: when you feel that everyone is better than you and that you are a servant not a master. And those are the same quality every Christian have to have.
And to those who think that only christian don't follow their beliefs, I must say that non-believers do it too. They try to force their beliefs on us. Believe many christians lived trough that kind of torture. In my country for example. Those who preach freedom, deny it to others who don't share their beliefs, they even want to change our religion to fit their needs and attitudes! So I think we are same. WE ARE YUST PEOPLE, TO PROUD TO SEE WHAT WE ARE, AND ALWAYS READY TO SEE MISTAKES OF OTHERS.
