How to market online articles

I have had success generating press for my business in newspapers and some magazines, but I am not familiar with the process of marketing your website by writing articles and submitting them. I heard this is a sure way to increase traffic and revenues, but I am not sure where to submit them. Should they be articles or press releases? Can you submit press releases online?

You can submit articles as well as press releases online .But you must know your purpose . If getting traffic is your purpose then post your articles in various groups in Yahoo or Google . Have you tried starting a blog? You need to be able to generate content on a regular basis, but if you can do that, you can start to get the attention of search engines.

submit your article to article directory, include resource box with backlink to your page...try to contact webmasters for publishing your articles...one god way of promoting articles or your website is RSS sindicate...just publish your work on rss feeds...there is like million ways of promoting :)
