Why can't i walk very far without my calves cramping?

Leg cramping during exercise is an early indication of a condition termed "claudication". Individuals who are limited by leg cramping with minimal activity should consider the possibility of compromised blood flow to the legs. Occlusion of leg arteries is progressive and can advance slowly to the point where either the feet and toes can be in jeopardy due to poor blood supply.

Claudication typically occurs with walking and is relieved by standing still. This pattern of symptoms is similar to those of angina or heart pain in that it occurs frequently with exertion or stress, and is somewhat relieved by rest. Careful examination of the blood circulation in the legs should be sought by a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in vessels supplying blood to the extremities.
