Win 2000 or Win XP is recommended on your system if your system processor is more than 1.7GHz & your system RAM is more than or equal to 256MB. These OS really need to be tweaked although if you need to tweak them you will get Paid softwares like Tweak XP, TuneUp XP & XP Tweaks & TuneUps & Free Softwares like Fresh UI Etc. The best Tweak you will ever find about Win XP is ' To Unload DLLs After Window is Logged On' It will really boost up your system from 3-20%. If you need to tweak it without a software I mean you need to tweak your system without any softwares & you want to tweak it in the registry editor than please contact me for the specific tweak you need.
