Famous people and their private lives

Why are we all so obsessed with the private lives of celebrities?

After all, they're only actors, and some of them can't even really act, so why is the question of who they're going out with or whether they're pregnant or whose baby they're having or what diet they're on or what they did on the weekend so important to everybody?

Everybody has relationships, and has babies, and goes on diets. Why is it only when actors do it that it becomes newsworthy?

Is it because they're good looking? Is it because they make more money acting in one film than the average person would earn in their lifetime? Can anyone explain?

Because it's something to talk with other people about that isn't an obscure interest. Everybody knows about them. Tabloids are the way lots of people make their livelihood, magazine writers, paparazzi, celebrity's talent agents! People are always gonna be willing to spend money on it because celebrities always seem to be more interesting than them, that's just the way it is I guess. :( I would really hate being a celebrity, it would be incredibly stressful...

I absolutely agree about not wanting to be a celebrity - I really value my personal space and my privacy.

I still don't get it though - what is the fascination? I don't think they're private lives are any more interesting than anyone else's anyway. They get married, they have babies, they go on holidays (vacations), they get jobs, they lose jobs, they get divorced - just like everyone else. Sometimes the most mundane, trivial stories about celebrities somehow manage to become front page news!

What's more, a lot of what is written is completely made up - not exaggerated, not based on spurious rumours, but made up entirely by some self-proclaimed 'journalist' who couldn't find a real story to fill their space.

I believe it is because they are beautiful, charmed people who live what the media has blinded the general populace into believing are beautiful, charmed lives. They are famous, wealthy, live in big houses, wear designer clothes, and get to do things that regular people don't get to do often.
