AMD vs Intel

I want to buy a new set of computer,
assembling my own, cheaper, so now i'm like thinking, should it be AMD based or Intel based

what about CoreDuo that everyone is talking about, what's that
is it a new brand of chips???
Better than AMD and Intel is it?

Will the battle between these two giants ever end?
When you're building a PC from scratch like this,
and you're choosing between the two giants, it's best to know what you're actually going to be doing with your new computer.

In general, would you be using it for simple tasks like typing in words, sending emails and such or would you be using it for more complex stuffs like graphic design stuffs, building 3D artworks/models and such?

From a very very general view, if you're not going to be doing that kind of complex stuffs as mentioned, you don't need an AMD processor, Intel is good enough to satisfy your every need.

However, it's good to know that from the competitions between the two organized by some review company, AMD's latest range of core-duo chips won in almost every category, in terms of speed, power and the likes.

So superstar, you don't have to worry a thing, choosing any of it will be good, but I do recommened that if you're doing heavy graphic stuffs with your new computer, then go for AMD, else, close one eye and pick one, both would serve you well lol

Oh yes, Dual-Core / Core-Duo are the latest chips from Intel, it generally runs on a new technology using two chips in one processor, not a new brand or anythign like that ;)

hope that helped

I fully agree with iluvmcds. You can choose from Intel. They are best. Not interested in laptops :?:

Nowadays, they are far cheaper with the motto "movable" -{ I meant portable. :idea: }

Although you will probably notice that on AMD Dual Cores, each processor is only about 2.4 Ghz, this all adds up to 3.8+ Ghz! Each core works on its own so you could be playing a game and then alt tab into Windows to start working on a Word document or something and there will be absolutely no slow down. It's like two processors/computers all in one!

AMD wins every benchmark in every processor class these days. Even Dell started to use AMD now. They were the last major hold out. Ever since the DIGITAL DEC ALPHA head microprocessor engineer came to AMD about 7 years ago AMD has been on the rise.

Competition is good for the consumer. If not for AMD intel would still be under 1ghz and I'm sure of it.

I've just purchased AMD since the K7 came out. Before that I had all Intel.

Any other AMD lovers?

I've always been using Intel all my life and my last three PC's were Intels until just recently, my current 2.4 MHz Pentium 4 died out on me. Right now I am using a replacement 1 MHz Pentium 3. I am shopping for new PC's and will probably end up buying an AMD x2 4200. It looks like the best bet and I have always wanted a dual-core. I could say that at the moment, I love AMD.

Yes I fully agree with the statements above. According to my observations AMD always beats Intel. Some people that I've talked to say that Intel is better in making complex calculations whereas if you your main need is to play games then AMD is the choice for you.

There's little doubt that AMD's K8 Athlon64 processor is currently the fastest architecture available. The Athlon64 architecture is superior to Intel's Netburst (the architecture that drives the Pentium 4) in every which way, and Intel's band-aid fixes have not been enough to keep up with the perpetual underdog from Austin. It's true that Intel does have a real winner with its Pentium M and Pentium III pedigreed Core Duo, but these are primarily mobile CPUs, and consequently beyond the scope of what I'll be speaking on.
