I really wanted to like this film more. I was quite enthralled with the characters, due to the amazing performances by the principles involved. However, the final 1/3 of the movie takes such a melodramatic turn that it looses its momentum for me. It takes a violent and tragic turn that some might find powerful, but I found misguided. Still, the performances and the emotion involved (at least for the first 2/3 of the film) make this movie worth renting. The nudity was OK.

I really liked the movie. But then I read the book before I saw it. Ben Kingsley was very powerful in the role. I could not imagine anyone else playing the part. The guy who plays the drunken boyfriend is great too. Just can't remember his name. He plays scuzzy so well. He was in Bastard Out of Carolina as the abusive step-father. Now that is a movie you should check out. I'm not sure if there is any nudity tho.
