'baby on board' signs and why they don't make sense
Contrary to popular opinion, having a "Baby on Board" sign can actually be dangerous!
These signs were developed and marketed to young parents who were told that buying and using them made them "better parents" and helped "protect their children".
In reality, these signs can be harmful for several reasons:
1) The sign can block the driver's view causing an additional blind spot.
2) Unsafe driver's are NOT going to be more careful when they see the sign, but parents are driving around with a FALSE sense of security which means the parent is not being as careful and observant as they should.
3) Some parents think that in the event of an accident this will let rescue workers know to "look for a baby". What if the baby was NOT in the car in the first place, now some rescue worker is trying to dig through the wreckage risking their own life trying to "save" a child that isn't there!
4) In this sick world of ours, there are people who actually steal children. You just put up an announcement for ALL the world to see - "Hey, I have a baby on board - carjack me and you get the kid!" or if the car is parked in your drive, they know which house has a baby they may be able to abduct.
