HI, I just got a new computer,
so, how do I tweak it for performance,
actually I'm not a computer person at all, but if it can make my computer better, maybe I'll learn it and do it, if it's not too technical to do lol

Overclocking
Over heard of the term Over Clocking?
Basically overclocking means running a microprocessor faster than the clock speed for which it has been originally tested and approved. Its a popular technique for getting a more performance boost from your system. And you don't need any additional hardware.
Usually, it will result in a performance boost of 10 percent or less. This is done by increasing the bus speed on the motherboard.
Results may vary though. Even if you place two identical systems together and overclock them, they will most likely not produce the same results. One will usually always overclock better than the other.
Do you think that's too hard for you?
So long as you understand the terms I use, I think I can basically guide you on how to do it :)

The bad side of overclocking
If you overclock, after some time, maybe 3-5 years,
your computer might just crash its BIOS, and then, if you're unlucky enough, you're not gonna get anything back, so, be safe when you play with overclocking, for me, I don't think it's a good idea,
you should just spend more and get a better quality computer, at least you don't run into accidents like that.
this is from experience coz i overclocked mine before, and lost my data, all gone, no backup, it was a nightmare!!!

What is the Operating System you are using. How much is your system's main memory. And CPU MHz. Once you give this info we can figure out why? Meantime try using Windows 98 and see if performance improves....

Tweak your OS
Hello,
Win 98 or Win ME is recommended on your system if your system processor is less than 1GHz & your system RAM is less than or equal to 128MB. These OS do not really need to be tweaked although if you need to tweak them you will get Paid softwares like Win Boost, Win Gold & Tweak 98 & Free Softwares like Fresh UI Etc. If you need to tweak it without a software I mean you need to tweak your system without any softwares & you want to tweak it in the registry editor than please contact me for the specific tweak you need. For example contact me if you need to tweak your system speed or graphics or sound or other things. I will be happy to help you. Have a nice day.
Thanks Jahrukh. :P

Myself I always try to keep my hard drive defragmented with diskeeper.
I don't install too many random programs to clutter my registry.
I make sure I have no hardware issues such as broken or misconfigured devices.
I make sure I have the latest drivers and patches.
I divide my hard drive into to partitions.
-20GB for OS and programs
-Rest for Data
-The beginning of the hard drive is the fastest part of the drive so I make sure that my programs and OS and there.

I don't defragment my drive very often, although I should. I use the windows defragmenter to do the job. For those who do not know what exactly does the defragmenter - it simply moves the files on the hard disc closing gaps between them it does not move your files in a different directory. It is similar to you tidying up your room - you find what you need more quickly.

Simple small steps to make computer fast - Part 1
Lot of files tends to accumulate in the computers over a period of time and slow their speed, like:
• Clear up recently used files via “Start Menu->Settings->Task Bar & Start Menu->Start Menu Tab->Customize button->Clear button of recent documents etc”
• Periodically review the files stored and created in the hard disk, delete unnecessary ones Files deleted go to the “Recycle Bin”, which should be emptied periodically
• It may have happened that the computer shut down improperly (power cut) and scanning by windows fixes files and creates files (*.chk), which can be deleted if not required.
• Use “Disk Cleanup” and “Disk Defragmentor”, both in “Programs->Accessories->System Tools”

Simple small steps to make computer fast - Part 2
In continuation to above post:
Lot of files tends to accumulate in the computers over a period of time and slow their speed, like:
• Check out the installed software via the “Start Menu->Settings->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs”. Check out the “Add/Remove Windows components” and remove ones not required as they can always be enabled again easily (if Windows CD is there). If any other software is not needed and its CD is there, one can remove it.
• After Internet usage, remove temporary files, using options of browsers a) In Internet Explorer, “Tools->Internet Options->General Tab->Delete temporary files, cookies etc”. b) In Firefox, “Tools->Clear Private Data”
Please note that Simple small steps to make computer fast- Part 1 & Part 2 are for the Windows Operating System
