Rims?
Has anyone been noticing the trend people getting Rims since they make the car look all cool? I wanted to just figure out some stuff about Rims? How much do they cost, and do they do anything to your car besides making it look good. They make most cars look pretty good, but they seem very expensive..

heh, rims do make a difference, but unless i'm driving a really cool car, makes no sense wasting money on the rims - on a lousy car

Yeah that's a really good point. If you're driving a really old beat up car I guess it would be pretty pointless to go put some nice rims on it. Cause if the car isn't nice, there's no point in making the rims nice. But on the other hand, if you're driving a nice car, then you should go put some rims on it so it looks even better. :)

all alluminium wheel rims do, is weigh less, so reducing fuel costs, and also giving you better pull off speed.
wheel rims, shouldn't be looked into with an older car, as they cost so much, and you won't save enough money in fuel, it will take a few years to get the investment back.
if the wheel rims are too damaged to be used, then the normal wheel rims should be looked into, unless the one on the other side of the car is alluminium, ie. both front, or both back wheels.
the main reason for saying that is obvious, if there is a difference, then the car will cause problems when driving.
there is no mechanical reason why to go for alluminium wheel rims, apart speed, and fuel.

so you're saying that light wheels/rims can contribute to fuel saving and faster speed then?
wow, i thought these modifications are for looks only, din know they can contribute in other factors like these

yeah, it was show on tv, that a 2 tonne car over a 100 metres, with all 4 tires changed to alluminium done the sprint a 10th of a second faster.
and anything that makes a vehicle lighter, has the advantage of making it go from a standing start faster. like taking out the back seat, taking off a roof rack, changing the rims, taking the carpet out.
the only thing that doesn't make much difference is go faster strips!
but the problem is, if you are to see savings, then it is over time, and not a short term solution! unless you do a lot of mileage.
but the main saving, is by not driving like an idiot, ie. heavy brakes, heavy acceleration, and running the engine for long periods while stationary.
but going against that, then a car needs to run 10 miles / about 15 killometers before the battery starts to recharge properly.

Wow, that's really interesting. I didn't know that at all. I was also one of the people that thought rims were just for the look of the car, and to make the car look cool. I never knew that the rims would be a factor in the fuel and speed. Woohoo, I learned something new today!

Forget rims, I need new tires period. Thank goodness there wasn't that much snow here in NY this winter. It's really sad to hear my car's tires screaming to get some traction on an itty bitty hill. Oh well, that is tops on my list as soon as I get a job.

Oh yeah snow is always bad on the tires. And yeah those rims look great but I gaurantee you that there really expensive. Naturally, the bigger size you want the more you have to pay.
