Read a book in a different language?

Hello bookworms :)
Have you ever read a book that is not in your native language? Which one and how big it was? Did you experince difficulties while reading it?
English is not my native language as you may already know :) and the biggest book I've ever read is about Harry Potter. It took me three months...

Well, I read several chapters of the Aenead in Latin. But not the entire book, and it took me an entire school year. I am really impressed by people who can read and write in a language that they didn't grow up with. I wish U.S. schools had more of an emphasis on learning a different language in elementary school, or even kindergarten, when it's so much easier to pick up!

I've also tried reading poems in a different language(english) and I had hard time understanding the words. Once I understood them I yet again had hard time understanding their meaning in the context. I can say for sure that I like much more novels than poems. By the way poems took more time to understand as mentioned above.
