U.s. democratic sen. john kerry eats humble pie

Democratic Senator John Kerry apologised directly to U.S. troops yesterday for comments about Iraq that prompted a firestorm of Republican criticism in the final days of a bitter congressional election campaign. Kerry told the students if they studied had they could do well, but if they did not “you get struck in Iraq.” What have you got to say? Was he right, wrong or perfect? Let’s talk!

I was flabbergasted that someone could make such a comment, even in jest. My husband has a Master's degree, he is an executive, and overall very successful, and guess what!? He went to Iraq for a year! Going to Iraq is not a punishment for being unsuccessful, it is a responsibility for defending our country. Most of us are not brave enough to take up that burden. Even if you don't agree with this war, the soldiers are heroes. They are the ones who are sacrificing. And some of them are sacrificing a lot.

Yeah, it was pretty rough. He believes in what we are doing there, but the time away from home was really difficult. He also said that people here don't have a real grasp of the dynamic over there. It's going to take a long time to effect positive change, but it *is* happening.
