Yahoo messenger for linux

I'm using linux as my OS. The thing is, my dad insist on using Linux for every pc in our house. So, here i am. An opensource chick!
Problem is, i'm still struggling with installing softwares or programmes. Its never straight forward when it comes to Linux. You have to use the konsole programmes to configure stuff. Those codes or commands that you need to type? I cant keep on bugging my dad everytime i wanna install something.

For instance, how do i install yahoo messenger on linux? I'm using the knoppix.

1)i downloaded yahoo setup having the *.tar extension

2) then i extracted to any directory for example in /opt using the tar command

3)now separate directory of yahoo messenger is created in /opt

4) inside yahoo messenger directory, there is a binary executable file perhaps named as yahoo

5) run it using the command

./yahoo

6) yahoo messenger will be installed inshaAllah..

try other alternatives for messengers like GAIM, AYTTM, but wait, knoppix is a live-CD right? or have you installed it in your Disk? If you run it in live-CD it should have messengers bundled in it already.
