Funny engine sounds

Hi,

I have an old 1993 Suburu Loyale and the engine has been making a funny noise for awhile. I tried taking it to Midas for one of those engine check ups and the mechanics said that the car was too old to work with the machine. I've also taken it to another guy who said that the car's engine just plain needed rebuilding.

The noise is like a regular clack, clack, clack, clacking sound. Anyone have any ideas?
