Tell me about your on-line business

I know there is alot out there to read about e-commerce and on-line businesses. I am interested in freelance writing and would like to know more in "Layman's Terms".

Please post your true life stories. How did you start out? How are you doing now? I would like to know the Pros and Cons and what to expect. Did you keep your regular jobs while you were getting started or did you jump in both feet? :D
