New motherboard/processor

I always put together by own computer. About a year ago, I spent some money upgrading a couple parts. I bought a stick of 512 ram and a new video card. Now, my motherboard/processor is lagging a bit behind the rest of my computer so I was hoping for some suggestions for a motherboard /processor.

I have a gig of ram, 6800 geforce vid card.

I'm looking to not spend A LOT but a midpriced motherboard/processor that delivers. I don't knwo the details of my processor, but it's at least 4 years old.

Thanks!

Whether you'll still be able to get hold of these, I don't know, but I have a mid-range system with an Abit AN7 mobo, and an AMD Sempron 2400+, and they work fine with 1 gig RAM and a GForce4 5200 FX. I see no reason why a similar set-up wouldn't work with your GPU.

The Sempron chip should be easy to find, and they're quite cheap, but you may have to opt for a different mobo, as Abit has the AN7 as an 'archive' product, so I assume they're no longer made.

The Pentium D 940 represents the state of the art in Intel processors, not just because of its dual core nature, but because of the other features it incorporates as well. The most significant extra that this CPU brings to the table is its support for 64-bit x86-64-based operating systems through Intel's EMT64 technology. The Intel Pentium D 800 and 900 series processors also incorporate Intel's EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology), as seen in the 6xx line of Pentium 4 processors.
