Is it right to charge customers for plain water ?
What do you feel about restaurants that do not provide plain water even if you request for it?
What is the 10% service charge for if they do not provide the service such as plain water?
I don't mind paying for my drinks but I still want my plain water.
Please list all your bad experiences with these restaurants so that we can boycott them.

Rouge at Emerald Hill, Singapore
I do not get my plain water even if I do get myself a bottle of red wine?
Why am I paying for in the 10% service charge for substandard and rude services? No next time.

i was there with this dude,
and i agree, restaurants like these suck,
they charge a lot for their food, plus 10% service fee, and they don't serve free plain water, ordering a bottle of red wine can get you one glass, but no refills.........
kinda sad huh?

In a way yes but I voted no for the fact some area's in our country we have to pay for water like in our homes and to use...but other in the countryside you do not have to...now I have been in restraunts that do charge for water..but like this it does not cost that much to get a small glass or two or a pitcher of water..and too right humpty they charge enough for food why charge for water that does not even probley cost a penny for a glass??

that's y me n my buddy were so upset with the restaurant,
it's not like we were sitting there with cheap food and gulping their plain water, our bill was more than 150 in total, just 2 person, had lamb chop or steak, can't remember, and a bottle of wine, i wouldn't say the bill is that BIG but hey, can't we get another glass of water to clear our throat after the meal nad the wine and all, geeeeeeee
if i were to open a restaurant, i'd be damn sure to offer plain water for free!!!

That is for sure on the clearing and wanting more water with out paying for it.
Also more and more people are turning to water for natural drinking and less soda and other beverages as water is good for you. Water clears your systems of dangous waste and bateria.
Not only should the restraunts care about thier food and service but for the health of thier customers. More and more people are taking advantage these days of becoming healthy again or staying that way.

I vote no, because as i was voting i was thinking of those small restaurants or stalls that i go into for quick bite. Usually they charge me when i asked for plain water with ice. But then it's understandable because the foods are cheap at those kind of place and, hey, water don't come from a free source either.
But i never come across fancy or atleast decent restaurants that charged me over a glass of water. I simply assume they include it in the service charge or something. Or maybe, i just didn't pay much attention to my bills :)

This is most the time true that you will find the smaller restruants charging for water. I have been the much larger ones that have charged you for water.
Even if they are smaller I do not see the point in charging somesone for a glass of water. Do you know the price of a glass of 6oz of water? It is less then a half cent if that at all. And what do they charge for a glass of water. A dollar or more, and this is right. I really do not think it is right.

If it was me, I just wouldn't leave tip if they charged you like that. I believe it's OK if they charge you only if you ask for BOTTLED water, because they probably have to pay for that also. But to me, I just wont leave the 10% tip if they treat me rudely, or make me pay for water or something like that. Besides, most restaurants make you pay ALOT, and give you very little food.

Agree with you on no tip for paying for water...Yes and if they give you bottle water that is different but to come out of the faucet is another thing.
Well I have worked in that type of business and they do give you the recommended potion of food that we are suppose to have. If you are an American and can only say that due to the fact I have only lived here...we eat more than our share or suppose to...so when we go out to eat we starve lol

I work at a fast food restaurant where they have 4 sizes of drinks. Kids, Small, Medium, and Large. The owner specifcally told us that when a customer ask for a glass of water, give it to him in a kids cup. So when I first got hired, I wanted to do everything that the owner said. I did that. I often found that customers complained. So then I gave them mediums. But, when the owner was around I gave them smalls. (Smalls are bigger than kids). He told us that you are supposed to charge them for a LARGE cup of water. To me, thats nonsense. I just give it for free. Unless, he is around me of course.

Yes I have had that ...in a way not changing my mind but in fast food restaurant is not different but I see his point the glass cost him and if everyone gave a glass to each customer he be losing some not much but I see his point and smaller glasses are cheaper....but still have to say good for you...
I have had to pay like a quarter for a large glass of water at the fast food place and in a way don't mind because I know they have to pay for the paper glass or plastic but in regular restaurant they do not buy the glass and give them they reuse them...

Yeah, that is true. In a big restaurant they have glasses so there's no paper cost. I'm glad a drink of water is like 25 cents instead of something expensive, so I guess that's good. But still, I find it important that restaurants provide good customer service, or else the customer might not want to come back. All the little things make a difference. So even though paying for water is a little thing, it will make a big difference to customers.

Some say: Nothing in this world is free. But I disagree. Paying for water is just silly. We live in the 21-th century and guess what I'm going to die from first if I don't have a quarter to buy a glass of water. Well maybe the people working in the restaurants do not think like me but still this does not affect my opinion.

All true ..true...and you think they would want to promote as they do with healthy foods and drinks...what is more healthy then a glass of water...But since we have to pay high prices for health, water must fall under this catagory.
