HI

From what I know about Christianity, I dont think civil marriage is sin. Sin is defined differently in Christianity. About participating in eucharist - thats purely traditional, in the sense that some chruches allow some dont. I dont think there is anything in scriptures against it.

Ur right

rockyroad, ur right it depends upon the church u belong to. So find one where scripture is more important than tradition. While traditions are good and in some cases necessary - but we must remember that traditions are followed to facilitate better worship - they cannot become ends in themselves so that fulfilling of them becomes paramount and is used as a yardstick to measure ones spirituality or obedience to God. Traditions must be followed to maintain some continuity. In fact tradition is nothing but a practise that was at a particular time meaningful in a particular context. But traditions can become irrelevant and cumbersome to a different generation then they must be changed; that is how we make faith more relevant and vibrant. Otherwise faith and spirituality become mechanical fulfillment of traditional practises thus losing any meaning. God Bless.

Rocky, I was looking throght the post's in this forum and your's got my attention about your concern about sin and getting to heaven and was concerned about what you think will get you to heaven. Let me say that no matter what anyone tells you on this matter of marriage the it will not keep you from going to heaven. The only way you can get to Hevean is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ who died for all of our sins.
-John 3:15-18
15 That whosoever believith in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that beliveth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not the believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
-John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father , but by me.
You see Rocky, it comes done to believing in Jesus Christ's shed blood(that was shed for all) to wash your sins away. This is what gets you into heaven.
-Mathew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testiment, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Living a good life and trying to live sinless(none can except Jesus) is not enough. You need to accept Jesus as your personal savior and believe that he rose up from the grave. If you confess your sins to him and truly believe in him and except him, you will be part of Gods children. This was Jesus promise to us.
I suggest you get back into God's word and search out what God's word has to say about marriage.
Its getting late here and I need to go to bed but will check back if you want more help. If you really are worried about getting to heaven, I think it would be a good idea that you get on your knee,s now and say this prayer.
Dear Heavinly Father, thank you Lord for sending your son Jesus to shed his blood for my sins. I except you Jesus, and your shed blood, to be My personal savior and I know that only through your name, can I make it to heaven. Lord Jesus save my life from the depths of hell. I confess my sins to you lord Jesus and I ask that you cleanse my sins with your shed blood.
In Jesus name I pray AMEN.
If you prayed this prayer Rocky and you really believe it you will never have to worry about going to heaven. I strongly recomend that you read your Bible and strenghten your faith so that you are not lead away in false teaching's as to how to live your life according th the will of God.
Man its getting late. I need to go. I hope this helps you and you are in my prayers. STUDY TO SHOW THYSELF TO BE APPROVED.

The short answer to "is it a sin?" is that there is no short answer to this. If you are a Christian, with a relationship with Jesus, you'll know what a sin is. Your conscience will bother you. If you're not a Christian, it doesn't matter!!

That is not true, there is no scripture in the Bible to support this, in fact there is no scripture that even say that you need to have a minister to be married. As far as the Bible is concern, if a man and a woman, who love each other and decides to live with each other, and have committed them selves to each other, they are married, even though they did not have a wedding. I am a Christian by the way.
