Nutritional value of meats

Nutritional value of meats

When comparing different meats, fish comes out tops. Unlike red meat, fish is not abundant in unhealthy unsaturated fat, instead it has plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce levels of bad cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Fish such as salmon, trout, sardine and tuna, all contain omega-3 fatty acids.

Chicken and turkey are considered better than red meats such as beef and pork. As white meats, they contain less saturated fat and cholesterol. However, eating the chicken skin and the fatty parts of chicken can be worse than eating a lean cut of pork. Therefore, whenever eating chicken, avoid eating the skin. Turkey meat is less fatty than chicken meat.

Meats are an essential part of most people's diets. They contain protein, essential minerals and vitamins such as iron and vitamin B. However, meats should be eaten in moderation, 2 servings a day, and with lots of grains, vegetables and fruits. :P
