Ban on coke and pepsi !!!

"The Indian state of Kerala has banned the production and sale of Coca Cola and Pepsi following a report that the drinks contain harmful pesticides.

It said it was taking the step because the drinks pose a health risk. Both soft drinks manufacturers have said their products are safe.

Five other states have already announced partial bans on the drinks in schools, colleges and hospitals.

But Kerala is the first to completely ban their production and sale. "

Good :o !!!. But let me ask one question. Is this right thing to do for a Government in such a situation? No official study has been conducted by any Governmental organization. The organization conducted the study has no legal or official backings. The Kerala Govt. and some regional newspapers have been making all halla bulla about this issue as if all the Kerala's problems have been solved with this ban.
Coke and Pepsi are not any layman's drink. People drink these useless drinks on thier own by paying 10 or 15 or 30 Rupees whatsoever. This is not consumed by the so called 'poor people' of Kerala to satisfy their thirst. But crores of our population have been drinking the highly poisonous contaminated ground water daily and use it for cooking, the same water which is used to manufacture these drinks. If, after all the processes the cola co.s are doing (if at all they are doing) the colas still contain this much pesticide residues, what will be the level of poison in ground water? Instead of going for a publicity stunt, what the Govt. had to do was to take urgent steps to make sure that the drinking water consumed by 'aam janta' in the state is harmless, free from any pesticides. It can be easily understood that these all are political gimmicks to derive mileage out of comman man's problems. Kudos to West Bengal Govt. which said that action will be taken after getting the results of study by Govt. agencies. They know what they are doing. Poor Kerala, despite being the most literate state in India, this is the place where people are taken for a ride by the two main political fronts which are in and out of power every five years, without fail. They know the fact that whatever stupid things they do, they will be in power after a five year break.
This is NOT the right choice ACHU :(

I don't think this has some other effect on the people of Kerala directly. Maybe other multinationals will be hesitant to come to Kerala, thats all. Who cares? Politicians are worried about winning some claps and votes (ofcourse)!!

So you can drink the water that has these pesticides but they are not allowing coke or pepsi to be sold..hmm strange due the fact that when producing these products there is a steriliztion that the product goes though and I am sure if there is something not right the companies would fix it..These companies are large enough and do testing each day. If there was such a problem I am sure they would take care of it right away..

I think the goverment there is trying to control the people may be or has an intrested in another product that is not as popular as coke and pepsi

I think ban on any drug(caffeine in this matter)or food is wrong, but I'm not against certain prohibition in certain places and situations.

It would be better to teach/inform the public, rather than making it illegal.

ban on pepsi

Yes, Peachey, the govt. of Kerala banned the sale of pepsi in the State, but the High Court, the apex court of the State has cancelled the govt. order stating that the Govt. have not followed the procedure and formalities for impossing such a ban, before banning it. The pepsi co. should have served a notice and given a chance to express their part, told the court in its judgment. Now the govt. is finding other ways to save its face.

I think if they go on with the plan, they will have to deal with extreme chaos because their citizens will suffer from the caffeine withdrawal symptoms. Haha! I know i will. And it will be messy!
