Genetic Engineering

Hi,

We are rapidly entering an age of genetic engineering folks. The question is are we going to be able to handle it or will we end up engineering ourselves into a pile of goo, like in some sci-fi story? I know that many companies are all ready engineering viruses and bacteria for use in vaccinations. Plus the race is on to see who can create the worlds first human clone.

I feel kinda' sorry for future cloned humans. They aren't going to ask to come into the world. We're just going to make them and hopefully we won't use them for cheap labor or body parts, but they'll still come into a world filled with controversy over their exsistence.

Some are debating whether a clone will have rights as an individual. I think that's just silly. Of course they will-if they didn't we might as well be argueing whether children born with the aid of invitro fertilization have rights.

I think that if there's a future where we are actually cloning humans, then this question would be a non-question. Ie, the futurians will treat clones the same as any humans because you can't tell the difference. A human is a human, no matter how you see it.
