Equipment for video editing

I am thinking of starting professional video editing and i'm here to ask if anyone is already doing it and now about the equipment to get started?

I have 2 computer screens and one VCR, i would get a control monitor TV and my question concerns the central unit. Here is what i think of getting (my budget is around 500-600 USD)

-2 hard drives, about 100 Go each
-proc speed about 2 Go Hz
-graphic card (-need help here!!!)
-a good soundcard featuring digital 5.1
-dvd burner of course
-video card with all sort of in/out plugs

as for the software i've been told that Final Cut is really great. So what's your opinion?

For the graphic card I don't know anything with 256RAM and VIVO prefferable. You'll need a TV card (in this case you don't need VideoInVideoOUT on your graphic card).

My advice is to get a DVD recorder - DVD player with recording option (not a computer DVD/ROM/RW) + a computer DVD recorder.

For a software check on sites of Ulead and Cyberlink.

With the graphics card, I suggest you get something top of the line. Graphics cards play a big role in the compputer, especially for things involving graphics. If your not much of a game or movie person then graphics cards aren't really that important. But, if your the kind of person who wants to be with videos or games alot, then your going to need a good graphics card. Look at GeForce or an ATI radeon.
