Which new browser is best

Which New Browser Is Best: Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7, or Opera 9?

For a long time, there was nothing to talk about in web browsers. You used Internet Explorer, and that was it. Oh, to be sure, some Mozilla/Netscape holdouts clung to their ways, as did a smattering of users of Opera, Konqueror, and other obscurities. Internet Explorer itself hasn't had a major version change since the release of 6.0 in 2001, so there wasn't much to talk about there, either for five long years.

That's all changed, thanks to that phoenixlike incarnation of Netscape technology, Firefox. In one year, the open-source darling Firefox has pulled within a dead heat of browser the browser popularity crown, at least on the ExtremeTech site, where each browser claims just over 43 percent of our viewers. This spurred Microsoft to leave off its complacency, and serious development of the formerly dominant browser restarted in earnest.

Right at this moment, big changes have or are about to occur in three well-known browsers: Internet Explorer is finally being updated, with version 7 in its third beta and almost ready to roll out the door; Firefox is also ripening an upgrade beta for its Version 2.0—it's in beta 1; and finally Opera, which has a devoted but smaller following, has recently come out with Version 9.0.

So, three new browsers in the same year, after no action for a half decade. How do they stack up? We do a comparison of features, usability, memory, and disk usage to help you decide which you should spend your hard earned…oh wait a minute, they're all free, so you can pick the one you want without worrying about out of pocket. Keep in mind: We're just looking at what's there right now, and not considering what the browser developers may have planned for later additions. Also, these are such feature-rich apps that it would be impossible to compare every little detail—which has support for Atom feeds or importing OPML, and advanced Java settings, for example—we'll stick to the stuff that's most apparent to regular users. Let's take the browsers out for a spin, then, shall we?

Yes foxfire has really come out with some really neat features lately but I have a program that I use and with the foxfire I am unable to use it so I have to resort to explorer for that ...and too been using explore for so long and now you can get the google bar for explorer ..but still like the foxfire...

Going to try and use the foxfire more and just get use to it...

Opera 9 hmmm never heard of it maybe someone can tell me what it is like....

Great, been checking into the Opera, but going to stick with the Foxfire for now. One other thing I have done is on one of my computers is put Lynx on it.

The others ones in my business use it and I am finding they have less problems with issues and remain stable more than I do with some of the programs I have to run. So now in the learning process of it. Seem to me not much diffrence just some of the programs I run are not supported but then the programers are starting to work on building similar programs to work with this system so that I would be able to change everything over.

And I have to say I have ran in to lots of issues with the new update of microsoft upgrade on the windows internet explorer including getting into my bank account. The bank sent email stating that if you are using this upgrade you will not be able to access our account for now till they do some upgrade themselves to work out all the issues they are having.

So looks like microsoft done it again more work and changes for everyone.

I absolutely love Firefox. I used IE for years and years, I tried out Firefox one day and haven't switched back. I love the tabbed browsing, I like the extensions that are offered. I trust it and I install it on all my friends computer.

I like Firefox2 the best. IE7 is a MAJOR improvement over IE6. But, firefox beat out IE to start with. The only problem with all these new browsers is alot of websites that have videos and all wont play in these new browswers. I don't use Opera that much particularly because I'm not experienced with it. But, if I had to choose, my vote goes to Firefox2

astros99 Hi and welcome to talk topics.

Yes the new foxfire is great one of the things I really like it the extensions they offer and how they run with the browser.

IE7 major issues there. With that some of the websites not only the video but also the site its self. I was downloaded IE7 and used it for a few days.
Went to my bank on the internet and could not get in was really getting upset.
Tried the next day with getting only to find on the front page of the bank where you log in to state that if you run IE7 there are issue that need to be resloved with thier site and IE7. I ended up calling the bank and they were telling me about this. Now they have to spend more money and work time fixing the site to fit the brower issues.

Has anyone else using Ie run into this issue. I have also notice that some of my reg sites I go on I get some errors on the run time. I was wondering if this was an IE7 issue also.

I would say the firefox will be my favourite. I've used ie, i've used netscape, somehow, firefox just clique with me. I don't think i'll be trying to use other browser for awhile now. I've never encounter any problem so far. I'm very happy with firefox.

Yes I use FireFox too but only when I'm sick of IE. I have the habit of always using the IE first since it is in my quick launch. I've used Netscape but it loads the images very bad and it does not awlays display the page good enough. So FireFox > IE > Netscape.

I think we all know that Firefox is the best browser out there.
You can tell that Microsoft knows it too, because what does IE 7 have, but tabbed browsing?!? It's like a microsoft corruption of Firefox, all blue and roundy. :D

Like you I have really gotten to use the firefox now in last few week more than I have IE oh and that new IE7 so mad at it ..guess that why I have used firefox more.

Firefox will have to say is much nicer you can add extensions you need not ones that they think you need and nice thing about it they are always coming out with new extensions if you need them you have a choice.

Yeah, I love all the extensions on Firefox. Sometimes I install them and play with them for awhile and then just uninstall them. It's so easy! And Firefox and Google play nicely together, so it's really easy to find what you need, put it in a tab, subscribe to RSS feeds and all that. And it's nice to not be supporting the beast that is Microsoft.
