China's online population hits 123 million

China's Internet population has jumped to 123 million at the end of June, consolidating the nation's status as the world's number two after the United States, the government said.

The figure was up 19.4 percent compared with the end of June 2005, government think tank Chinese Internet Network Information Center said in a report posted on its website on Wednesday.

The report said that 77 million Chinese had access to broadband at the end of June.

China's government maintains an ambivalent attitude towards the Internet, valuing it as an engine of economic growth but fearing its subversive potential.

that is something huge , buut i think that has to be as china is the most populated country in the worls and they have an educated population too . i also read that china has shifted to 4g mobile tecnology as it offers faster browsing speeds ,as its online population is growing and it demands so . also it had the most broadband usage , plus when ever i use a proxy , i get a server in china many times .
