Business and information technology.
Information Technology in its formative years (late 1950s to late 1960s) only promised great speeds and great accuracy. Its ‘logical’ ability meant that you could use the speed of computers to make business decisions. This gave people ability to write applications according to a set of rules that drives any business. Advent of communications and networking (LANs, WANs) and PC revolution gave us phenomenal tools which meant we could share information while doing our individual tasks leaving the main system to integrate, analyze and disseminate information as needed; execute strategies dynamically; follow new programmed approaches helping realize organization’s goals and vision. Internet (Web Technology) has added a new dimension to sharing huge repository of global knowledge-base in every sphere. Enterprises use this Network to run their worldwide businesses bringing products and services to people in fast opening world economies. When applied in healthcare, it helps communities combat disease, control epidemics, and save precious lives. IT now combines the speed of machines that not only can workout solutions quickly but also can deliver them to the needy people on ‘anytime anywhere’ basis.
