The A+ certification is a good start but if you really want to get a better networking job companies like to see MCSE or CCNA. Then it's an endless cycle of studing and testing. Another good way to learn to get some parts and put a computer together. Then another computer. Make a home network. Maybe try installing a server OS on one of the pc and get it to work. Set up a domain. Make one of the computers be the PDC primary domain controller. Lots of fun.

Having A+ plus several other certifications, I will try and answer your question. The best place to find info and study material is COMPTIA. They are the ones who write the exams and it is their certification. The best way to get certified is to take the practice tests over and over. Go to comptia.com.

A++ certification

As richi said, though it is good to have a certification like A+ in hand, the most important thing that counts is experience. You have to find ways to get experienced, either in any hardware firms or at your home itself. I don't have any formal certification, and am not an expert pro. But I have been assembling PCs for my use as well as for some of my friends. I started it with dismantling an old one trying to assemble it back. It was after many trys that I was able to do it properly. After assembling 1-2 PCs, only with experience in computer usage of almost 8-9 years and knowlege from tech magazines and books that I took my first formal hardware course. So, it is no big deal if you have real interest in this field.

Yes, I agree with you. But anyone working with computers as a technician or having a computer thru the past 10 years (and interested for the hardware) have the knowledge necessary to pass the test. A+ exam is one of the easyest and most practical in IT world. I'm sure You'll know the answers to half of the questions right now

I'll say that go for a certification after seeing the syllabus because the certifications like these are slightly costly and it should be well worth the money you will put into them .CompTIA A+ validates knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies, including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. CompTIA A+ certification also confirms awareness of security, safety and environmental issues, as well as basic communication skills and professional etiquette. The certification objectives were updated in 2003 and also in 200
