Leaders are special.

Leaders are masters at selecting, synthesizing direction, and articulating an appropriate vision, projected in time and space beyond the boundaries of ordinary planning.

How often to great leaders come along? Not very often in the western world. When you try to be a great leader at work and make people do some meaningful work they tend to hate you for it. They'd rather just fo just enough to not get fired. Are great business leaders where you are from?

A true leader is special because he or she is a rare breed. It's hard to come by leaders as you have described them, especially in a world like ours where you sometimes have to backstab people to get ahead.

Outstanding examples of great business leaders in our times are Lee Iacocca (Ford and Chrysler), Jack Welch (GE), Thomas J Watson Jr. (IBM), Morita (Sony), Bill Gates (Microsoft) and there will be some more from the western world.

We too have great business leaders who have made India a real happening place. These leaders include Lakshmi Mittal (Mittal Steel- now the number 1 steel producer in the world); Mukesh and Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (Reliance Group); Ratan Tata (Tata Group); N. Narainmurthy (Infosys); Azim Premji (Wipro) and a few others.

Have to agree that the great leaders are special and the ones that you pointed out are great leaders.

I look at leaders in diffrent catagories. We have leader of countries. (which I have not seen any real leader in years)

You have there are great buiness leaders which some were pointed out and many more around the world, and depending on the area of buiness they are in.

Then I see small buiness leaders, sales leaders, and leaders as in a work place that is in charge of the work and the employees.

I was a plant manager for few years and know what it is like to be a leader. Had many people under me to do the work. It takes special people to really learn how to motivate people to work for more than a paycheck or enough to get fired. I was the top plant manager in our plant as we had diffrent ones for diffrent areas. It had to start with the lead people of the diffrent areas I had to watch over to motivate them to motavatie the workers. And it work great.

To me a great leader either small or large...has to work with the people and not just in words but physically work to show them you can do it too. I did that many times worked right along side of them packaging and doing the same work they did. That is where I was above and beyond.
Gained respect from the workers. That the key.

I fully endorse your views Peachey. You have done a great job. At the end true leaders are great communicators and motivators. Once you are able to lift the human spirit, dynamism results benefiting the individual, the team, the company, the society and the nation. Churchill and Gandhi are great examples.
