While I enjoy watching movies, I prefer reading books. It's an exercise in visualization for me. If I find a movie that is based on a book that I have read, I try to get ahold of that movie and watch it, just to see how faithful it is in rendering the story as related in the book.

Books and/or movies...

If a movie was made from a book and I like the movie I will find that book and read it...if a book that I like is made into a movie I will try and see the movie...BUT in a general sense I would rather read the book and see the stuff in my own head not thru the eyes of casting and some director, editor and studio although I was very much pleased with the LotR and wish Jackson was doing THE HOBBIT.

I would go for both, books and movies. However, i always find that movies based on books is a bit turn off because the book always make a better story teller.

Books, books, books. I watch movies with my husband because it's a fun way to hang out together, but for my own entertainment, give me a good book any day. There's just a lot more meat to most books than most movies, and I process it better anyway.

Both! :D I'm a movie freak. At the same time, i love reading too. And when i start to read, the world will stop on my part and it'll be like i was transported into the book. So, people who know me well know not to disturb me or talk to me when i start reading. Because it'll be like talking to a statue.

I prefer to read the book first, then go see the movie. It makes it a richer experience for me because I feel better in tune with what the character is feeling behind his/her actions. This was especially true with Perfect Storm.
Some movies can disappoint. Take the movie Ghost Story, it was one of the scariest novels I've ever read. The movie was a bust. It didn't really have anything to do with the book.
If I have a choice between a book and a movie, I will pick the book every time.
