Short for search engine optimization, the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site.
SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

SEO is a biiiiiig fish...
keyword popularity, h tags, good optimized code, domain name, scripting method (php better then asp, html better then php), link exchange, link marketing, link directory, quality content...visit PM's workplace and read a lot of articles about seo...a do a lot of seo for my sites and i could say that a good link exchnage is a key of success in search engines..

I'm not a SEO expert, just knows the basics, but a site I've worked on came at first 10 at Yahoo for certain keywords, and appears on Google and MSN. I'think this is just a luck (or the keywords are not so frequently used). It is a pure HTML with 2 line description and 30-40 tags. I tried some directories but only 3 external sites link to mine and still it ranks high.

If you don't mind sharing what is the subject of your site that you did to come up with this???? I do not want to do one just curious.

Trying to learn more about seo and been doing some. Also reading and do have a couple of news letters that I get and signed up on some forums that are just for seo. Been learning but always can use more ideas.

Yeah, i've been trying to learn more about SEO too. The way i heard it, demand in this area is quite high. The link exchange too. Anybody know any place for beginners to learn about these?

Yes be nice if we had someone that had some good experince to help us with this. I do some of it but having a hard time with the one way links. I can get link exchange but also have a site they want a 3 way link exchange and having a tough time with that....

I have done that in Google but still have some questions and not sure what to do with some of it. I also went to some forums that deal with seo and like no one really helps out that much.
