Puffer Fish!

Has anyone ever been to Japan and tried their world-famous but deadly cuisne of puffer fish? I mean come on, is it really worth the risk...I heard generations of families actually died in their quest of learning how to cook it right!

I wouldn't think any food, no matter how delicious, would be worth the risk... and to top it off, puffer fish are ADORABLE! It would be terrible to eat one! Then again, i'm vegan...

Well, it is almost like a national culture in Japan...I suppose they feel the fantastic taste of the fish is worth risking their lives for. As they say: 'each to their own'...and 'one man's meat is another man's poison'.

I remember that president bush fiasco, not the current one but the last presdent bush, when he went to visit Japan in the early nineties. He got sick right in the middle of an important dinner with Japanese leaders. I think I heard that everyone was really worried at the time because he was served pufferfish and they were afraid they'd poisoned him.

oh yeah Fugu fish right?? When i was in school we studied a japanese short story about the cooking of fugu fish and i was very hooked by the thrill of thinking that everyone at the table might die after eating the delicious dish. I would be freaked out to even give one bite to that. I think it's forbidden to cook it in japan but people do it anyways for special occasion.
