Building my own pc

I am having a friend that is good at computers build me a computer.
Not sure what type of processor or mother borad to use.

I use the computer to go online, look at the news and read alot of research, I have games that I play online, and on the computer.

I have heard that the new system that microsoft is coming out with the Vista will need alot of space and maybe two processors to run correctly?

Would anyone have any suggestions on this?

Well I would have to ask you what your budget is but let's assume it is somewhere between $400 and $600. Depending on your preference (AMD or Intel,) I would either suggest a Pentium D 2.8 or 3.0 GHz cpu or an AMD x2 3800+ or 4200+ cpu. These four models are all dual core processors and should last you a very long time.

I would recommend at least 1 GB of RAM from Kingston and a 120 GB HD or 250 HD. Again, it all depends on your budget.

For your graphics card, you could either choose and nVidia 6800 or ATI Radeon x1800.

Let me know.

Thank you for the information. Something to think about and look into.
At this time I am not in a hurry to get it built, so this is good to know and find out which would best be suited for me.

Thank you again

If you are into art and use Photoshop a lot, then you should have at least 2 GB of RAM, it really makes a difference. If you play games a lot, 1 GB of RAM should be sufficient but 2 GB is great!

One of the most under-looked parts of a PC is the power supply. Make sure it has adequate wattage for what you do or else you will have a lot of problems; I know this from experience.

Hey great things I never think about. Thanks for the information.
And yes graphics are big for me and games too. Seems like the new ones take more and more things to make them work. There is a game I would love to play but I know my computer right now would just handle it. That is not what I want. I want to beable to play the game with no fears. So thank you for that bit of information it will help out alot.

For the processor always choose a "full version" processor both AMD or Intel, not some Celeron D, Duron... Its better to use a dual-core processor too.

In this case really matters: "Expensive one is a better one".

Dual core CPU is a bit expensive. You can do just fine with some newer AMD, the mainboard should be EPOX or ASUS with socket 939. As for RAM 1 GB DDRII should be enough. For the video card choose some Radeon 256MB. Hard disc should be minimum 80GB. And you should have a decent power supply - Fortron.

Yes that is all true. One thing thou is there is going to be some software out that you will need this type of processor and I see now a lot of the companies putting in this type of processor due the fact it is Microsoft implementing the software that you will want to run.

It doesn't really matter actually what motherboard/Processor you are getting, it matters

1. What are you intending on putting on it
2. What you are running on it
3. What other hardware is going to be on there?

1. If your a webmaster, you wont be doing overdrive high quality games, so you dont need exactly hi-tech gear

2. If you are running Games, you'll need a better hard drive and RAM,
3. Other hardware, balance it out, dont have a weak processor with a 300 GB 3 gb/s hard drive, balance it so everything is in the Thumbs up position

laos101 Welcome to talk topics and for the post.

You are correct in you post about building and what is your need for the processor. I guess when we were first posting, just thinking about the new Vista software that Microsoft is coming out with.

Just wanting to make sure that the processor was of specifications for the new software.

Humpty you do not need original windows to put vista on your computer.
I would think about it till Microsoft gets the bugs work out. As we know it takes them a couple of stables to work out all the bugs.

ya don't? but ya need original vista then? i wonder if there'll be as many non-original vistas soon since all other versions of windows have their non-original versions flooding the market, especially in asia
