Re: Windows ME problem

Try to increase RAM in ur system. Better not to install many drivers. Only go for essential ones. The time it takes also depends that the copy of OS. My best suggestion to go for some newer version of OS like XP.

First back up your important user data such as office files, pictures, and such to a removeble media such as cdrw or dvdrw or tape drive.

Windows ME is the worst OS from the worst OS developer.

Windows XP is much better and worth the investment.

You may have hardware issues such as defective hard drive, or RAM.

If you can't afford winxp then at least do a clean install of WinME.
-delete the partition first the recreate it and format the harddrive

If you have a factory recovery disk that puts a new image of winME then use that.

Reinstall lastest drivers from manufactors websites regardless.

If you still have problems then it's either RAM or hard drive.
-download free ramtest program and run that and after do the through scandisc and tell it to automatically fix errors.

If those programs find errors there's your problem.

If not then get WinXP

Windows ME Problem

Hello,

First of all I would like to give you a piece of advice and that is please do not use any OS under Windows XP given by Microsoft. This is what Microsoft itself recommends. The old OS have a lot of Bugs & Errors & Deficiencies. So please use another OS if you can & Windows XP is the best option. Still If you want to fix your problem then please first diagnose your problem. Do it as I have said:
1. First install a good & latest & updated AntiVirus System & Check for viruses & clean them if you find any.
2. Second install a good & latest & updated AntiSpyware System & Check for spywares & clean them if you find any.
3. Third check for any software Problems you may have. For that check your windows startup utility & registry errors & other installed programs. Also scan your disks if you can.(If you dont know how to complete this step please ask me & I will help you)
If you find any problems in the 3 steps I have told you above then Its a software problem & it can be easily removed by above methods. If it is not a software problem then it might be a hardware problem so please check your hardware & for that follow these steps.
4. Check all connections & cables and plug them tightly.
5. Check your hard drive for errors or bad sectors if that is so then format your whole hard drive(deleting all of ur partitions) and re-partition it and then use. But still you will have to be careful in future.
6. It might be due to low RAM memory or CPU Speed. If that is so then try to increase them. It may be an expensive solution to you.
7. If your computer has none of the above problems(1,2,3,4,5) or symptoms and the problems is still there then please contact your vendor(because it might be a hardware error then).
I hope these instructions will help you. Thanx.

Jahrukh. :P

You must have never worked in and Information Technology dept. before. What makes you think the average user can edit the registry? Why would you check cables at step 4? In step 5 why should the user format then repartition? Shouldn't you delete the partition then recreate it then format? If his ram and cpu were enough at purchase why are they not enough now? Do you think they get slower? Your post makes no sense. Don't you know that vendors don't support software or the OS? Do you even think this PC is under warrenty being windows ME and the vendor would even talk to them? Sure Microsoft suggests the lastest OS. They suggested that since their incorporation. Advice given should not require computer expertise. This is the reason why they are asking for it in the first place.

Why don't you reinstall your OS if you have the installation and know how to do it. If the hardware is good this should work. It is always better to install any OS (including XP) on a clean, formatted hard disk/partition.

You have windows ME installed, I assume your configuration is older and hard disk smaller (maybe only one partition) in this case you'll loose the data if you choose to follow this procedure.
