Win XP

If you ever face a problem in XP OS. Just restart your system in safe mode and then restart again in Normal mode. By doing this, the most common errors are solved. If not then restart your system and hold down the F8 key and select ' Last good known configuration' and you have done.

Re: Win XP

Well, I have a problem if anybody can solve it.
When every I try to open Java Applets in my browser it shows a dialogue box indicating that "Java Virtual machine is not installed in your computer". further it says you need to download it from Windows Update site. On clicking ok it searches it on windows update site. Always failed to do that and finaly says applets can't be shown to it.
I tried to install Java virtual machine manually but it hadn't shown any help for me.
can any body here help me?

Try using Sun Microsystems Java Applet. Sometimes the Windows applet doesn't work with some hardware setups, but this one always seems to work. You can get it by going to: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
And then click the download box next to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9'.

Hope this helps.

If this doesn't fix the problem. Log in safe mode and do a System Restore to a previous time.

If even this doesn't work play with the registry but be carefull. You might change or delete something that windows needs

For your problem, You'll deffinately need to install Java support.

Here is my way of doing things. I've I encounter some kind of problem even a virus that was undetected by my antivirus application I simply go to Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Then I choose the nearest possible date for my system to be restored and proceed with the restoration which takes 2-3 minutes at the most. I'm always glad with the results afterwards although I may lose some recent files(rarely happens).

Yeah, staring in safe mode and then in normal mode again for some reason works well with XP. A while back I used to hibernate computer, so then after that when I used to shutdown my computer wouldn't shutdown. It would just freeze in the shutdown screen. So I changed the power switch, then restarted it and it wouldn't start in the normal mode at all. I restarted in safe mode, then normal, and the computer worked like a charm. If that doesn't work, system restore is always a good 2nd option.

For system restore kind of thing u need to have ur o/s working correctly and u must logon. In my case, logon screen box is not showing

for last known good configuration: It didn't work in my sitution.

then, safe mode... system is restarting after some time..

nothing worked ...

luckly i hhad one more os installed as win98 which saved my data and i hv installed different WinXP with sp2..
now its working good...

Do you have a startup disk? Its always good to have one of those cause if your computer wont start or whatever, just pop it in and your computer fixed. System Restore isnt really that good unless you dont save checkpoints, or if the last known configuration wasn't working. But I'm surprise that the safe mode didn't work. It usually does. Oh well.

Interesting ... Startup disk.
Well, if i hv a startup disk, can i restore my system ??

this is a big question ?

If yes, then how to make that start up disk.

I know ghost.exe will be a good option.. isn't it?

Ghost.exe..Hmm.. You should double check that. Although it sounds like a virus, it might be a process that has something to do with Norton Antivirus. I know that Norotn has a ghost feature or something, so it might have to do with that. But whenever I have a process that I have no clue what it is, I'll search it on Google, and most of the time I'll figure out if it's a virus or not.

Just for the record - System Restore has always fixed my problems.
And about proccesses provided by the antivirus applications...I've always hated these. For exapmle Kaspersky Antivirus has some kind of proccess(which is disabled while renaming the .exe file under safe mode) which scans you system when you start up windows. The problem is that it takes way too much system resources for a considerable amount of time...not too practical, huh?
