Internet terrorism

Warning - Internet Terrorism

Is This Warning A Hoax?

Well before the recent terrorism attacks, the Internet community was experiencing an increase in computer virus hoaxes and bogus medical warnings. Now, after the terrorism attacks of September 11th, the Internet is filled with all sorts of new hoaxes, from anthrax and smallpox warnings to shopping mall bombing alerts. Some of the hoaxes on the Internet have been out there for years, being forwarded around the Internet from well-meaning friend to friend. If you receive any sort of warning through the Internet, we recommend you go to one of the Web sites listed below. They have lists of many of the bogus warnings that may seem very serious to you but have been proven to be a hoax. By finding out which ones are real, you may be able to save others from needless worry by not forwarding them to your friends.

finding out about them seems like something not many would wanna do, instead, what if we just avoid them?

try...SpywareBlaster?

it'll basically prevents such programs from creeping into your PCs,
they say prevention is better than cure,
i definitely agree when it comes to viruses and such

what about you astroboy,
you like protection too? or more accurately - prevention?

Protection is the key...

It will be better if the needed protection is given., coz' whatever type of preventions u do, u'll end up in hoax. As u know that Viruses are really of danger. So i would go for PROTECTION than PREVENTION.

Tsunami help email

I haven't heard of the terrorism theory, but a few weeks after the Asian Tsunami I was sent an email by a friend (who had been sent it and passed it on by someone who had passed it on from someone else etc.) about a poor little boy whose parents had been killed and who the authorities couldn't identify. The email purported to be asking people to look at the photo of the boy to see if they could help in identifying him.

I happened to be aware that the story of the boy's plight had been all over the international media a few days after the disaster, and the boy had in fact been identified and taken care of by a grandparent within a day or so.

Funny thing was, I left the open email sitting on my desktop, and when I came back to the computer a while later, my whole volume mount had been completely corrupted. Luckily I had Norton Utilities installed and I was able to repair the problem, otherwise I would have lost everything on my computer.

Is anyone aware of this chain-letter call for help in fact being a virus-carrying hoax? The strange thing is, I use a Mac, and I've really never had a virus on it before.
