“Hungry Tide” – By Amitav Ghosh

This is one of the famous novels of A. Ghosh set against the dense jungle of sunderbans. Between the sea and the plains of Bengal lies the archipelago of islands, Sunderbans. Piyali Roy, a girl of Indian parentage but stubbornly American in nature, meets Kanai Dutt, a sophisticated Delhi businessman. Piyali is on the track of rare river dolphins as she was doing research on them. She hires Fokir and sets to the sea, in search of dolphins, with Kanai as her translator. Here they face the ‘hungry tide’ as the sea goes violent with storm. While Fokir gives his life away for saving Piyali, Kanai and Piyali returned together as changed personalities.
